As the share of renewable energy continues to grow, power systems are becoming more complex — and the role of advanced engineering is more important than ever. At Ampner, Emma Jafari is part of the team ensuring that renewable generation can be integrated into the grid safely, reliably, and in full compliance with technical requirements.
Emma’s work centers on power system studies, detailed modelling, and dynamic analysis. She plays a key role in verifying that wind, solar, and energy storage systems perform reliably under a wide range of grid conditions — both today and as the energy system evolves.
Her work combines analytical thinking, system-level understanding, and close collaboration with both customers and colleagues. It is a role where complex technical challenges meet real-world impact in the energy transition.
The Interview
Name: Emma Jafari
Role: Senior Power System Engineer, Ampner Oy
Education: PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering
1. How does renewable energy play a role in your work?
Renewable energy plays a central role in my work because integrating wind and solar plants into the power system requires careful technical analysis to ensure grid stability and reliability. I work on power system studies that evaluate how renewable generation interacts with the grid during different operating conditions. These studies help ensure that renewable power plants meet grid code requirements and can operate safely alongside conventional generation while supporting the transition to a more sustainable energy system.
2. What is the best part of your job?
The best and most rewarding part of my job is solving complex technical problems that have been introduced in the power system with the increase in the share of renewable energy resources. Power grids are large, interconnected systems that can face various stability and reliability issues. Being able to analyze the causes and possible solutions, develop models and allow new energy technologies to integrate safely into the grid is intellectually challenging and meaningful.
3. What is your most memorable experience from your work?
One of the most memorable aspects of my work has been collaborating with my team. What stands out is the open exchange of ideas and the enthusiasm everyone brings to solving complex technical problems. People are always willing to share insights, challenge assumptions, and support each other in finding the best solution. Contributing to that kind of collaborative environment, where the focus is on high-quality engineering and successful project delivery, has been both motivating and rewarding.
