The Nokia battery energy storage system plays a significant role in enhancing the flexibility of the Finnish power system. With a capacity of 18.8 MW and a connection to the 110 kV network, the project is classified as a Type D energy storage system, requiring comprehensive modelling, testing, and grid compliance verification.
Ampner played a key role in the project by ensuring that the plant models fully met all applicable grid requirements and that the simulation results successfully passed the functional performance assessments.
Both PSS®E and PSCAD models and simulations were used to verify system behaviour under various grid operating conditions. Ampner also supported testing and validation as part of the grid compliance verification process, which is critical for converting a provisional commissioning permit into a final operational approval.
